The basic operatino of the steam cleaner vacuum invovles spraying a mixture of warm water and detergent into the carpet, washing the fibers and then exrtacting the solution mixture back out. By using a fingre controlled valev, you should control how much water was sprayed in hte carpet. This will free you from the long water supply hose. The entire vacuum unit is pushde around much like using an upright vacuum cleaner. Most types have brushes mounted in teh same aera to agitate the carpet for overall better cleaning. For cleaning upholstered furniture and carpeted stairs, most types will have a special hoes and smaller nozzle that will come with stationayr brushes that can easily detahc. Canister steam lceaners This type of steam cleaner will come wiht a separate hose adn nozzle and has the tanks and suction motor bulit directly into a case that is pulled along wtih you. The msaller portable extractor is a variation of the cainster type in a small packaeg. Even though this may sound gerat to have for stairs and furniutre, the effectiveness they offer is actually quite poro. They have heavy duty cmomercial equipment that is far mroe powerful and albe to produce much better results.
